Snake Plant FAQ
What is a snake plant?
A snake plant, known scientifically as Sansevieria, is a robust, evergreen perennial with tall, upright leaves that resemble the shape of snakeskin. Its hardy nature makes it a popular indoor plant, appreciated for both its striking appearance and air-purifying abilities.
Are snake plants toxic to pets?
While commonly known for their air-purifying abilities and ease of care, snake plants contain saponins, which can be mildly toxic to pets. If ingested by cats or dogs, snake plants may cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It's advisable to place snake plants out of reach if you have curious pets, or consider a non-toxic alternative such as a spider plant for your furry friends' safety.
How often to water a snake plant?
Snake plants require minimal watering, thriving when the soil dries out completely between waterings. Generally, watering every 2-6 weeks is sufficient, depending on the environment's humidity and temperature.
How much light does a snake plant need?
Snake plants are flexible with light conditions, preferring indirect, moderate light but can tolerate low light and some direct sun. They are an excellent choice for spaces with varying lighting conditions.
How long does a snake plant live?
With proper care, snake plants can live for many years, often several decades. They are known for their longevity and can become a lasting part of your home or office with minimal maintenance.
🪴 Locally Sourced
It's not local when garden center trucks travel 1,500-3,000 miles on average to deliver your plants from far away brokers. We aim to keep our greenhouses under 150 miles* (often much less), away from the growers which results in reduced pollution, plant waste and damages, and lower the amount of time the plant is in transit.
👩🏼🌾 Supporting local farmers
Our farmers earn double through working with us compared to when selling to traditional large box retailers! We accomplish this by sourcing locally directly from the farmers, eliminating multiple deliveries, packaging, and subscription fees.
We use wood fiber to cover our soil to help prevent soil spillage.
The wood fiber is placed over the soil, right under the foliage.
We then use a plastic bag to cover the planter and wood fiber portion of the plant.
Next we secure it tightly with a zip-tie.
We then place the houseplant in a paper bag and secure it safely with a rubber band.
