Flora releases a personal carbon-offset tracker

Flora is now the only app made for simplifying plant care that gives a breakdown of how much people’s indoor plants are offsetting carbon emissions.

Tuesday, March 8, 2022 – Flora, the web and mobile app that simplifies plant care through AI-driven, species-specific identification and care alerts 24/7 from anywhere in the world, today announced that it has launched its new Green Impact feature, an in-app tool that allows plant owners to directly track how much their indoor plants are offsetting carbon emissions.

The tool gives weekly, monthly, and all-time breakdowns of how much users’ plants are offsetting carbon emissions by tying the exact carbon emissions of individual plants to common activities that they're offsetting, such as binge-watching a favorite show, driving on a city road, or charging a smartphone.

Flora - Carbon Offset Tracker
“The Green Impact feature is one of Flora’s most ambitious efforts to date because it lets plant owners see exactly how much their plants are contributing to a more sustainable planet,” said Aabesh De, Founder and CEO of Flora. “I hope that plant parents using Flora can feel inspired by how, similar to reforestation with trees, their houseplants can play a role in offsetting the carbon produced by their energy usage, personal devices, heating & cooling systems, and more."

Along with the Green Impact feature, Flora has had several major milestones since its launch in July 2021, including:

  • Launching an AI-based image classification system that has a proprietary plant database that has helped users identify thousands of plants and save over 50,000 plants through customized care.
  • Growing 67% month-over-month to over 65,000 total users, many of whom share their plants in the Community Garden, which serves as a social network for plant tips, care, and support.
  • Adding Bracken Darrell, CEO of consumer electronics company Logitech, to its board of investors and advisors as Flora embarks on the next stage of its growth and rolls out its wireless sensor-pod technology.

The Green Impact personal carbon- offset tracker is now available in the Flora app and is the most comprehensive indoor plant CO₂ emissions tracker of its kind. Said De, “Flora’s mission is to empower millions of people to embrace nature and save our planet through saving their plants - and this is a tangible step towards helping people understand exactly how they are living more sustainably.”
